Japanese Government Scholarships for 2022-2023

The Embassy of Japan’s Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) is now taking applications for the 2023 Japanese Government (MEXT/Monbukagakusho) Scholarship Program in the following categories: Research, Undergraduate, Specialized Training College, and College of Technology.

Research Student Scholarship

This fellowship allows students to spend at least 18 or 24 months undertaking independent study under the supervision of a Japanese professor. The grant is open to any field of study, but applicants must find a Japanese professor who would supervise their research. Look for instructors in the preferred topic of study on the websites of Japanese universities. This does not, however, guarantee that the applicant will be assigned to that professor. After passing the initial screening, applicants are permitted to contact instructors directly.

Undergraduate Student Scholarship

This scholarship allows applicants to study for up to five (5) or seven (7) years at a Japanese college or university as an undergraduate degree student in one of two fields of study: Natural Science or Social Science (for those majoring in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or a six-year course in pharmacy).

Specialized Training Scholarship

This scholarship allows applicants to attend a Japanese professional training institution for up to three years.

College of Technology Scholarship

This scholarship allows applicants to attend a Japanese college of technology for up to four years.
