The Philippine National Police Health Service traces its lineage to the Medical Corps, Dental Service and Nurse Corps of the defunct Philippine Constabulary/Integrated National Police (PC/INP), one of the Four (4) branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). They were under the administrative control of the Surgeon General, AFP; the Chief, Dental Service, AFP and the Chief Nurse, AFP.
Upon inauguration of the Philippine National Police on January 1, 1991, the Medical and Dental Centers was activated as one of the National Support Units, pursuant to para 2, GO Nr 58, HPNP dated January 18, 1991.
However, in October 1991, the Headquarters Medical and Dental Services were unfilled. The Medical and Nursing Service of the defunct PC, were then integrated into PNP Medical Service distinct and separate from the PNP Dental Service.

PNP Health Service are in need of:
- Medical Doctors
- Dentists
- Optometrists
- Medical Technologists
- Radiologic Technologists
- Pharmacists
- Psychologists
- Nutritionist-Dietitians
For In-Service Applicants (Age: Not more than 46 years old at the time of appointment. Age waiver shall not be allowed)
For Civilian Applicants (Age: Not be less than 21 or more than 30 years of age; Age waiver may be granted provided, the applicant shall not be less than 20 or over 35 years old)
Note: NAPOLCOM En Banc may only grant waivers when the number of qualified applicants falls BELOW the quota of the Recruiting Unit.
Medical Doctors shall be appointed to the rank of POLICE CAPTAIN (Salary Grade 23).
Dentists, Optometrists, Psychologists, Medical Technologists, Radiologic Technologists and Nutritionist-Dietitians shall be appointed to the rank of POLICE LIEUTENANT (Salary Grade 22).
PROVIDED, that an applicant MUST possess appropriate eligibility for the rank.
