The Marine Special Operations Group (MARSOG) is an elite unit in the Philippine Marine Corps.

Step 1: Meet the Basic Requirements

Before applying, make sure you meet the basic qualifications:

  • Must be a Filipino citizen with good moral character.
  • Must be single, never married, and have no children.
  • At least 5’0 (60 inches) for both males and females
  • Physically, mentally, and Psychologically fit.
  • Must be at least 21 years old for Officers and 18 years old for Enlisted Personnel.
  • Minimum educational requirement of high school diploma (college degree is preferred for officers).

Step 2: Join the Philippine Marine Corps

You must first become a Marine before you can apply to MARSOG.

Here’s how:

  1. Apply to the Philippine Marine Corps:
    • You can visit the nearest Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) recruitment office or check their online recruitment portal.
  2. Follow their Application Process:
    • It typically includes submitting documents, undergoing interviews, and taking exams.
  3. Complete Basic Training:
    • This includes the Philippine Marine Corps Basic Training, which focuses on physical fitness, basic military skills, and discipline.

Step 3: Apply for Special Forces Training

Once you’re a Marine, you can apply to join MARSOG by volunteering for their special forces training programs.

Most MARSOG operators are:

  • Airborne-qualified.
  • Scout Ranger-qualified.
  • Must pass the Force Reconnaissance Course, which is required to join MARSOG.

Step 4: Complete the Force Reconnaissance Course

The Force Reconnaissance Course is challenging and will test your physical and mental limits.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Six months of training focusing on reconnaissance, combat skills, and survival techniques.
  • The course ends with a test mission, often an actual combat operation, to evaluate your skills in real-world conditions.
  • Only about 60 candidates are accepted, but only the best will graduate.

Step 5: Additional Specialized Training

Once you’ve completed the Force Reconnaissance Course, you may undergo further specialized training in:

  • Jungle Environment Survival Training.
  • Demolition and underwater operations.

Training never stops for MARSOG operators, and continuous learning is part of the job.

Step 6: Join a Reconnaissance Company

Once you’ve successfully completed the training, you’ll be assigned to one of the Recon Companies under MARSOG.

The unit is organized into:

  • HQ and Training Company
  • Four Recon Companies
    • 61st Reconnaissance Company
    • 62nd Reconnaissance Company
    • 63rd Reconnaissance Company
    • 64th Reconnaissance Company
