Selection and Training Overview
This section outlines what you need to know about the requirements and process for selecting and training candidates.
Who Can Join?
You need to meet these qualifications to join:
- You must be a member of the Special Forces or Scout Rangers.
- You need at least 2 years of combat experience.
Steps in Selection:
Here are the steps you must follow in the selection process:
- It starts with challenging physical exercises (called “mase-mase”) followed by a Physical Fitness Test (PFT).
- You will do land navigation exercises with unknown distances and time limits.
- It ends with a panel interview with senior officers.
After passing the selection process, you will begin your training courses to prepare for the challenges of the LRR.
Counter-Terrorism Course (CTC):
This section explains the training phases of the Counter-Terrorism Course.
The course has four main parts:
- Combat Life-Saver Phase (3 weeks)
- Teaches how to give medical help in combat situations.
- Basic Pistol/Rifle Marksmanship Phase
- Sharpens basic shooting skills with M4 rifles and M1911 pistols.
- It ends with a shooting test using an M4 rifle with iron sights and an M1911 pistol.
- Combat Marksmanship Phase
- Teaches shooting, moving, and communicating during combat.
- It ends with a stress test, where you will face different battle situations to check your combat marksmanship skills.
- Close Quarters Battle (CQB) Phase (2 months)
- Teaches how to fight and plan operations in buildings and urban areas.
- It ends with a test that you must pass based on simulated missions to move forward.
- If you fail, you have the opportunity to retake the next CT course.
Light Reaction Sniper Course:
This section talks about the advanced sniper training course.
- You must finish the CTC before entering.
- It focuses on long-range shooting using advanced equipment.
- Updated after the Marawi Siege to improve training.
